Dietary Advice for weight loss

Obesity is one of the most common conditions affecting millions of people all over world. Unfortunately, one of the biggest stumbling blocks that the condition faces is the fact that some people continue to remain under the impression that the most disturbing effect the condition has on an individual is limited to his or her aesthetic appeal. This is, in fact, completely false as some of the more serious concerns develop under the surface and only rise to prominence once they are completely developed. For instance, some of the more serious concerns such as heart failure, chronic respiratory illness and cholesterol problems will only show up once the condition is full blown. While there are a few individuals that could point to factors out of their control such as hereditary and genetics as being the primary causes of the condition, these numbers are few and far between. The more common causes of these conditions happen to be inappropriate diets and a lack of adequate exercise. The lack of an appropriate diet is usually the result of the fact that most of us lead very fast paced and hectic lifestyles – prompting a reliance on fast foods such as hot dogs and burgers on a regular basis to be part of our daily diets. While they are rather tasty, these foods contain none of the essential vitamins, minerals and nutrients that the body requires in order to perform optimally. Moreover, the lack of adequate exercise means that there is no outlet for the body to be able to burn the excess calories that have been consumed through fast foods – leading to a build up of fat cells within the body and the development of obesity. Diet for hair loss

One of the main reasons for unhealthy hair is poor nutrition. By following a nutritious diet for hair, you can ensure that your hair becomes lustrous and beautiful. Here are a few changes you can make to your diet for hair that is shiny and healthy.

• Increase your protein intake. Your hair is made mainly of proteins, and for hair growth it is important that your supply of protein is adequate. Make sure you add more eggs, poultry, whole grains, legumes and soy to your diet for healthy hair.
• Dry hair and hair breakage occurs sometimes due to a deficiency of fatty essential acids. Include good sources of these essential acids to your diet as they will help strengthen your hair and give it a luster. Essential fatty acids are found in fish such as sardines, tuna, salmon, trout, mackerel and herrings. Try and eat four servings of the fish mentioned in a week. Vegetarians can get their nutrition for hair from nuts, seeds, avocados and olives. Pumpkin seeds and flaxseed oil sprinkled on your cereal in the morning can get you the much required essential fatty acids.

Type 2 Diabetes: Treat with a Healthy Diet

Over 23 million American have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and another six million are suspected to have the condition but are not yet diagnosed. Diet and proper nutrition play an important role in the prevention and treatment of diabetes. Eating healthy foods in the proper balanced amounts can help lower blood sugar and manage the symptoms of type 2 diabetes. Balancing carbohydrates, eliminating sugars, and adding protein will help stabilize blood glucose in people with type 2 diabetes.

Carbohydrates and Sugar in a Diabetic Diet
Diabetics need to be watchful for “good” carbs and “bad” carbs. Good carbs contain complex carbohydrates and burn slower, helping to stabilize blood glucose. Bad carbs cause insulin to spike in the blood and should be avoided. Bad carbs are found in sugar, refined white flour, corn sugar, and, unfortunately, fruits and juices. Because of the valuable nutrients in fruits, they can be included in a diabetic diet in small amounts, but fruit juices are best avoided. To add fruit juice to the diet without spiking insulin levels, juice can be diluted at least 50/50, so that the benefits of the fruit can be enjoyed without adding sugar to the bloodstream.

Beans for Diabetes
The American Diabetes Association recommends a half-cup of beans a day. Beans contain carbohydrates along with as much protein as an ounce of meat. Beans also contain magnesium and fiber. Read the rest of this entry »
